📅 Weeks Between Two Dates Calculator

Pick two dates to see how many weeks are between them. The order does not matter.
This calculator tells you how many weeks are between two dates. Enter a first and second date and you will instantly see the gap as whole weeks plus any leftover days, the total number of weeks as a decimal, and the total days. The order does not matter, the tool always uses the absolute difference, so you can put the later date in either box.
What is the Weeks Between Dates?
A week is a fixed block of seven days, so working out the weeks between two dates is really a two-step job: first count the total days between them, then divide by seven. The whole-number part of that division is the number of complete weeks, and the remainder is the leftover days that do not quite make another full week. For example, 31 days is 4 weeks and 3 days, because 4 x 7 = 28 and 31 - 28 = 3.
Because the tool parses each date at local midnight and takes the absolute difference, the result is the same no matter which date you type first. It counts the gap between the two calendar days, not the number of calendar weeks that the span touches, so two dates in the same week can still be several days apart. If you need whole calendar weeks (Monday to Sunday) or the ISO week number instead, that is a different question and a different tool.
The total-weeks figure is shown two ways for convenience. The headline result gives you whole weeks and remaining days, which is how people usually think about a countdown ("three weeks and two days to go"). The decimal figure, such as 4.43 weeks, is handy for spreadsheets, pay periods, or anywhere you want a single number you can multiply or compare. Both come from the same total day count, they are just rounded differently.
When to use it
- Counting down the weeks to a wedding, holiday, exam, or due date.
- Working out how many weeks a project, pregnancy, or rental period covers.
- Converting a span of dates into weeks for a timesheet, invoice, or pay period.
- Checking how many weeks of notice, warranty, or subscription time fall between two dates.
How to use the Weeks Between Dates
- Pick the first date using the date picker.
- Pick the second date (it can be earlier or later, the order does not matter).
- Read off the weeks and leftover days, the total weeks, and the total days.
- Use the today buttons to set either date to the current day, or Clear to start over.
Formula & method
Worked examples
How many weeks between 1 January 2026 and 1 February 2026?
- Total days between the dates = 31
- Whole weeks = floor(31 ÷ 7) = 4
- Leftover days = 31 - (4 x 7) = 31 - 28 = 3
- Total weeks as a decimal = 31 ÷ 7 = 4.43
Result: 4 weeks and 3 days, or 4.43 weeks, or 31 days
How many weeks between 1 June 2026 and 1 August 2026?
- June has 30 days and July has 31 days, so total days = 61
- Whole weeks = floor(61 ÷ 7) = 8
- Leftover days = 61 - (8 x 7) = 61 - 56 = 5
- Total weeks as a decimal = 61 ÷ 7 = 8.71
Result: 8 weeks and 5 days, or 8.71 weeks, or 61 days
Total days converted to weeks and leftover days
| Total days | Whole weeks | Leftover days | Total weeks (decimal) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | 1 | 0 | 1.00 |
| 10 | 1 | 3 | 1.43 |
| 14 | 2 | 0 | 2.00 |
| 30 | 4 | 2 | 4.29 |
| 60 | 8 | 4 | 8.57 |
| 90 | 12 | 6 | 12.86 |
| 180 | 25 | 5 | 25.71 |
| 365 | 52 | 1 | 52.14 |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing the day gap with calendar weeks. This tool counts the days between two dates and divides by seven. It does not count how many Monday-to-Sunday calendar weeks the span touches, so two close dates can land in different calendar weeks while still being only a few days apart.
- Expecting an exact whole number every time. Most date spans are not an exact multiple of seven, so you usually get whole weeks plus some leftover days. The decimal figure (such as 4.43 weeks) keeps that fraction instead of hiding it.
- Worrying about which date goes first. The order has no effect. The calculator always uses the absolute difference, so putting the later date in the first box gives exactly the same answer.
- Forgetting whether the end date is included. The result is the gap between the two dates, not a count of days in a range. From a Monday to the next Monday is 7 days (one week), even though that touches two Mondays.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the number of weeks between two dates?
Count the total days between the two dates, then divide by seven. The whole-number part is the number of complete weeks and the remainder is the leftover days. This tool does both automatically and also shows the total weeks as a decimal.
Does the order of the two dates matter?
No. The calculator uses the absolute difference between the dates, so it does not matter whether you put the earlier or later date first. You will get the same number of weeks either way.
Why is the result shown as weeks and days instead of just weeks?
Most spans are not an exact multiple of seven days, so there are usually some leftover days. Showing weeks and days (for example, 4 weeks and 3 days) is how people naturally think about a countdown, while the decimal figure is there if you prefer a single number.
How many weeks are in a month?
It depends on the month. A 30-day month is about 4.29 weeks and a 31-day month is about 4.43 weeks, while February is 4 weeks (28 days) or just over 4 weeks in a leap year. There is no fixed whole number of weeks in a calendar month.
Does this count calendar weeks or just the day gap?
It counts the day gap and converts it to weeks. It does not count how many Monday-to-Sunday calendar weeks the period touches. If you need calendar week numbers, use a week number calculator instead.
Is the calculation done on my device?
Yes. Everything runs in your browser using plain JavaScript, with no data sent anywhere. Your dates are never uploaded, so you can use the tool privately and offline once the page has loaded.
